• Tankfest 2026

I went with mummy and daddy to Tankfest at the Tank Museum in Dorset.

There is also plenty of stalls and free activities. I was shown how to use a snipers rifle and I got to actually fire a hand gun.

We watched a demonstration on how the army clean the main gun on a tank. They use long rods, similar to how a window cleaner washes upstairs windows. I also had a free go on the climbing wall but I didn’t get very far up.

We wandered around the museum and I learnt about WW1, WW2 and war horses and their uses in the war.

We watched the big army display in the main area where they demonstrated lots of the vehicles they use. My favourite was Titan which makes a bridge. It is the highest value target in the army so it is always sent with armed backup and it has a smoke screen to hide it’s position. When they put the smoke screen on the entire arena filled with horrible smelling smoke and we couldn’t see the people in front of us.

  • Hatching Dinosaurs

I spent my pocket money on a dinosaur egg that hatches if you leave it in a glass of water for a day. It was a fun experiment to do.

  • Digging for dinosaurs

My nanny bought me a big dinosaur excavation egg with 14 little dinosaurs inside for me to dig out.

It was very messy. The kit came with a little chisel and a brush. I had to soak the egg first and I made a really big mess. I got it in my hair, all over my clothes and all over my aunty’s dog as I did it at her house.

It was lots of fun though and I can name all of the different dinosaurs it contained:

On our way from from Chester we spoken at Trevor to take nanny and my Aunty on a boat trip over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Mummy and I did it last year and really enjoyed it, see this post: https://abisadventures.blog/2025/05/11/an-amazing-aqueduct/.

After the boat trip, mummy and I were brave enough to walk all the way over the aqueduct and back.

  • Midsummers Watch Parade

We visited Chester over the summer solistice weekend (the longest day of the year). The annual Midsummers Watch Parade was on. It is one of the UKs oldest festivals.

Parades of people dressed up and playing instruments marched through the crowded city streets.

There was a really big black dragon, and lots of people on dancing alongside the carnival floats. It was very noisy and busy, but fun too.

  • Medieval Stocks

Whilst we were exploring the city of Chester, we found some stocks. Mummy explained that stocks were a form of punishment using in medieval days. If market traders were found to be selling spoiled ‘stock’ i.e. meat, fruit, corn etc then they were reported to the market inspector who would lock them into the stocks for a period of time.

Whilst they were locked in the stocks, members of the public were encouraged to through their spoiled stock at them.

  • Mondao Circus

We went to watch the Mondao Circus in Aberystwyth with our friends the Molloys.

Some of the stunts were very dangerous and there is no way I would do them.

I liked the hula hoop dancer the best, she was amazing.
