Whilst we were exploring the city of Chester, we found some stocks. Mummy explained that stocks were a form of punishment using in medieval days. If market traders were found to be selling spoiled ‘stock’ i.e. meat, fruit, corn etc then they were reported to the market inspector who would lock them into the stocks for a period of time.

Whilst they were locked in the stocks, members of the public were encouraged to through their spoiled stock at them.
