• The Vole Shoe Rescue

Whilst exploring the Cotswolds Villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter I spotted a vole running along the road. Voles have short noses, which makes them easy to identify.

We stopped our bikes and tried to usher it into the hedgerow but it seemed determined to remain on the road.

We searched for something we could catch it in and Mummy said it would have to be my shoe. I watched as she ushered the vole into my trainer and released it into the field.

  • Velodrome

I have been riding my racing bike around the Velodrome in Carmarthen and learning how to change gear.

  • Telling The Time

I can now read an analog clock. I am very proud of myself.

I still need to learn the 24 hour clock and roman numerals but I can tell the time on a traditional clock.

  • Sleepover, Swimming & Kayaking

I’ve spent lots of time with my friend Alys this week. We had a sleepover at her house, then the next day we went to an indoor swimming pool and then we went kayaking together in the evening.

  • Westonbirt Arboretum

We broke up our long drive home with a stop at Westonbirt Arboretum. An arboretum is a collection of trees. We visited with my Uncle.

We say the tallest tree in England, a Douglas Fir which stands at just over 60m tall. These trees can reach the age of 1,000 years old and grow to over 100m.

We also saw an amazing smoke bush and I had lots of fun climbing on all the playgrounds.

We all enjoyed the tree top walk, it makes you feel like you are a squirrel, up high in the trees. We also found some great carvings, my favourite was one of three dogs.

  • Guildford Lido

Mummy and I had a fun few hours at Guildford Lido. I did lots of swimming underwater, jumping in and going down the slides. I also made a new friend.

A lido is an outside swimming pool. This one was heated so it was a lovely place to be on a hot day.

  • Weekend Visiting Family & Friends

The main purpose of our camping trip this weekend was to visit lots of our family and friends back in Hampshire and Surrey:

    • Nia & Chris
    • Nanny & Grandad
    • Mummy’s old work colleagues
    • Uncle Kevin & cousins

  • Learning about Canal Locks

We stopped at Caen Hill Lock, which is a line of 16 locks which can be used to take a narrow boat up or down the hill. It is part of a 29 lock flight on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

The entire flight climbs 237 feet (72 m) over 2 miles (3.2 km), making it one of the longest continuous lock flights in Britain. Sadly it was not usable when we visited as there is repair work going on at the bottom lock.

I was disappointed not to see a canal going through a lock, but as it happens later in the weekend, whilst out with our friends in Godalming we helped a narrow boat go through the Farncombe Lock.

  • Stonehenge

We drove past Stonehenge today. It is a circle of really big boulders that are world famous. They have been there for a really really long time, and no one really knows how they the early people managed to lift them on top of one another.

It is believed to have been constructed around 3000 BC and 2000 BC.

No one really knows why it was built but the stones where built, but we believe it’s to do with the summer and winter solstice (the longest and shortest days of the year).

  • Starfish & Grasshopper

Whilst at Aberavon beach we spotted a grasshopper, which seemed like an odd thing to find at the beach. We also found what we thought was a starfish. According to the iphone identifier it’s actually a Brittle Star and not technically a starfish.

It looks so different when upside down, it looks more like a man made button that an animal.
