  • Learning to lay a fire

I collect fallen twigs as kindling, and help daddy bring up the logs to the wood store for drying. I’ve recently been shown how to lay the fire. You start with crumpled newspapers, then add kindling, then gradually stack larger logs on top. This week, I’ve been allowed to lit the fire which is the most exciting part.

  • Beautiful Badgers

This weekend we stayed at our friends house in Birmingham.

They live in the countryside and had wild badgers, deer and foxes visit their garden most evenings. During our stay we saw two badgers and a fox visit.

Our friends have trail cameras setup in their garden and when an animal arrives, the cameras send a notification to their phones. We were then able to watch the animals live on the cameras. Depending on whereabouts in the garden the animal was, we could sometimes shine a torch out of the kitchen window and see the badgers in front of us.

Badgers are much bigger than I thought they were.

    Learning Opportunities:

    • spending time in nature
    • identifying different flowers
    • creative imagination
    • dexterity
