• Heatherton

Nanny and Grandad bought me some Heatherton tokens for my birthday. My favourite thing is the Zorbing / Walk on Water attraction. It’s very tiring but so much fun.

    Learning Opportunties:

    • Scalextric – hand control / visual-motor coordination
    • Scalextric- humility and sportsmanship
    • Zorbing – exercise, balance

  • Goosing Around

We have a family of Canada Geese that return to our pond every year to breed.

We’ve name the parents Ross & Kelly, this is the third year they have returned. Kelly herself was born and raised on our pond a few years ago.

I learn lots from watching and interacting with the geese. Here is Ross taking a bath and preening his feathers. Birds have to do this every day to keep their feathers in tip top condition and the rename waterproof.

  • Making bird food

Even though I am still ill with chicken pox, I’m well enough to do stuff. Today mummy and I made some bird food.

We started with some really stinky lard which we melted in a saucepan. Next we added various seeds and nuts and gave it all a good stir.

Then we poured it into some plastic tubs and pushed twigs into the centre and left them to set.

  • Studying Frogspawn

We are very fortunate to have our own pond. It is alive with wildlife and this time of year it’s filled with frogspawn.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be watching these guys develop into tadpoles and then eventually into frogs.

Today I learnt what adjectives are, as mum asked me to describe how the frogspawn felt. Adjectives that could be used are slippery, wet and slimy.

  • Map of the World

I’m lucky to have done quite a lot of travelling. I am doing an on-going project with mummy to help me understand where all the places are that I have been .

We are colouring in a giant map of the world.

The set comes with stickers of flags and animals which need to be put in the right countries. The map also has lots of famous landmarks and buildings.

I am also learning the continents, so far I’ve visited Europe and Asia.

  • Chicken Pox Won’t Stop Me

I have chicken pox, so there’s no usual drama or swimming clubs for me this week.

Instead, I am helping daddy with some house maintenance.

First, I painted some of the rusty man hole covers from our patio.

Next, I cleaned the filter from the tumble dryer as we noticed our clothes weren’t coming out as dry as normal. I also learnt what all the different attachments on the hoover are for.

  • Learning from the TV

Creature Cases is one of my favourite TV shows. I learn something new everytime I watch it.

In the last episode I learnt the differences between an alligator and a crocodile:

    • the differences between an alligator and a crocodile:
      • crocodiles have long thinner snouts
      • alligators snouts are broader
      • crocodiles show their teeth when their mouths are shut.
    • I also learnt that the Everglades in Florida, is the only place in the world where they live together.
    • Nocturnal means animals that come out at night.

  • A Week in Matagorda, Lanzarote

A family holiday in Matagorda, Lanzarote gave me the chance to practice a few spanish words including hola, gracias and adios.

Our apartments were almost touching the runway so we spent some time at the viewing point watching the planes coming in to land and taking off. The planes were very loud. One evening we watched the planes at night and we discussed the different lights on the plane, some flashed, some were different colours. We observed that they all came in to land at exactly the same angle and height.

We had a hire car, so one day we did an inland hike and found some unusual rock formations and what we think was some form of abandoned and unfinished quarry.

We visited the ancient town (and former capital) Teguise on market day. There was live traditional music being performed and coach fulls of tourists created hustle and bustle on the narrow cobble streets. We also took a look inside one of the windmills and saw how the flour was ground between big round stone plates.

We visited Arrecife (the new capital) and walked along the path of lava stones, crossed over the drawbridge and visited the fort museum. Outside the museums were two large canons, I peered inside one. Inside we saw various exhibits and learnt about the volcanic eruption that formed the Canary Islands.

After visiting the beach on different days we noticed how the tide was at different heights. This lead to a talk about how the moon affects the tides.

We saw lots of Ring Neck Parakeets flying around and learnt the difference between collar doves and pigeons.

In the main resorts people have been attaching love/lock hearts to the railings, this makes it very pretty. We watched Daddy use a lighter to engrave our names into the plastic heart. The lighter got very hot and was starting to burn daddies hand. That evening we chose a spot near the playground and attached our love heart. Next time we visit Lanzarote we’ll be sure to see if it’s still there.

  • Drawing a train

I love trains. I drew this picture from my imagination with no help at all.

  • A Day on the Farm

My Aunty has a small holding near Brecon with 39 animals. Today I spent the day helping out:

    • collecting eggs
    • feeding the sheep
    • helping in the polytunnel
    • moving the horses around between fields
    • checking on the owls
    • walking the dogs
