Chateau Saumur

A chateau is like a french castle. They are all over France, they are big and impressive. We visited Chateau Saumur in the city of Saumur in the Loire Valley region.

Inside the chateau there are lots of different rooms. One room featured lots of amazing dresses. There were big carpets on the wall with pictures woven into them. Mummy told me these are called tapestrys.

We also went to an underground room. We weren’t sure if this was originally a dungeon or a wine cellar. It was cold and a bit creepy.

Horses feature heavily inside the castle, they appear on many of the tapestrys and there are a couple of rooms dedicated to horses in battle. There is even a horses skelton.

I saw displays showing the armour that horses would wear in battle, and the spurs that the rider would attach to their boots.
