Cahir Castle is one of the largest castles in Ireland. It is in County Tipperary and was built in 1142, that was a REALLY long time ago and it is still standing today.
Inside the castle they is a big model display of the Siege of Cahir Castle. It shows how the the Earl of Essex came and conquered the castle in 1599.
The portcullis is still there and upstairs you can see the levers that were used to raise and lower it. A portcullis is a very big heavy gate that can be lifted up to allow people in or out, or can be closed to keep the castle safe from attack.
