Titanic was a very big cruise liner that took people across the Atlantic Ocean to America. Titanic was 269m long and 28m wide with 10 decks (floors). At the time it was the largest ship in the world. It was also considered the most luxurious. Third class or Steerage passengers had electricity and running water in their cabin. At the time, most houses in Ireland did not have these luxuries!

It is famous because it sank on it’s maiden vogage (that means, the first time it was used).

Roughly 1,500 people died on the ship, just over 700 people made it into lifeboats and were rescued.

The ship left from Queenstown (now called Cobh) near Cork in the south of the Republic of Ireland. It departed on 11th April 1912 and sank 4 days later on 15th April 1912.
