• Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur Park

After the Vanlife Festival we visited the Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur Park just outside Shrewsbury.

There were lots of animated dinosaurs dotted throughout the woodland walk.

They were in chronological order. Mummy read out the information boards and we learnt about the 5 mass extinctions that the world has seen.

Not all dinosaurs lived at the same time, there were millions of years between some of them.

We saw lots of fossils and replica dinosaur bones.

We saw replica skeletons on woolly mammoths and woolly rhinos.

  • Vanlife Festival

Mummy and I spent the weekend at the Vanlife Festival in Shrewsbury.

I made several new friends, some of which we hope to meet up with again on our travels.

We listened to a few of the speakers and I enjoyed looking around the different campers. There was such a selection, some people actually live in their campervans, lorries, trucks and even a double decker bus.

I took part in the drumming session at the Wellness Area.

We watched the blacksmiths and the wood carvers.

  • Ballooning Moths

We came across a wildlife wonder today on our morning walk in Cardiff. We saw hundreds of Winter Moth Caterpillars all hanging on threads dangling from a Siberian Elm tree.

We found out from Google that this is called Ballooning and it’s a method the newly hatched caterpillars use to travel to a different tree.

There were countless strings of moths swinging around in the wind, it was impossible to walk under the tree without getting them caught on you.

  • See saw science

Whilst playing on the see-saw Mummy demonstrated leverage. Mummy weighs more than me, so when she sits on the end of her side, I find myself stuck in the air.

However, if Mummy sits nearer the centre and I stand right on the edge I can lift her end off the ground.

We experimented with us both moving up and down and eventually found the point of equilibrium or balance.
