Cefn Coed Viaduct
After visiting the Brecon Mountain Railway we walked across the historic Cefn Coed Viaduct.
The viaduct was built in 1866 and was used by trains to connect Merthyr Tydfil with Brecon.
It has 15 arches and is 770 ft long. Today it’s part of the Taff Trail, route 8 of the National Cycleway.

Cyfarthfa Castle & Museum
From the viaduct we could see part of the Cyfarthfa Castle, so we visited there next.
Learning Opportunities:
- learning to identify the cygnets from last year as they were still partially grey
- watching coots dive
- exercise on the playground and interactions with other children as it was a busy Sunday
- completing the lego trail around the museum
- using the interactive display screens around the museum to learn all about the history of Cyfarthfa Castle
- learning what a Blacksmith does
