Learning about air bags

Today I learnt all about airbags. We did an exciting experiment where daddy set off an airbag in an old car.

We all wore safety googles and stood well clear of the car.

Daddy used a big pole to hit the sensor and deploy the airbag.

Things Learnt:

  • all modern cars are fitted with lots of airbags.
  • if there is a car crash, the air bags inflate really really fast and protect the people inside the car.
  • the word deploy means to start or activate something.
  • airbags produce a strange smell and smoke
  • airbags take 0.50 milliseconds to deploy
  • there are 1,000 milliseconds in each second
  • once an airbag has been deployed the car is usually never driven again
  • the airbag is just a big cushion of air
