Deer at Dinefwr Park & Newton House

We took my friend to visit Newton House at Dinefwr Park. We started off in the grounds on a deer hunt. One of the members of staff advised us to head for the boardwalk and she was right, as we found a group of male and female deers. The males are called stags and have big antlers. The females are called does and don’t have any antlers.

I learnt that stags shed their antlers every year and grow a new set. The bigger the antlers the older the deer. There are a few species of deer in the UK but the ones at Dinefwr are called Fallow Deer. The does have white spots on their backs.

After walking around the Mill Pond we walked back through the woods and saw lots of sculptures of different animals.

Next, we explored the inside of the house. Some of the rooms were decorated for Christmas with lights, and presents. There was a dolls house which my friend and I loved. It was very old.

Another room was showing a mushroom exhibition. There were models of various mushrooms in a display case and the glass behind gave the names of each one. I had no idea mushroom came in so many colours and shapes.

We visited the cafe before going outside to look at the White Park Cattle. They are very large with big horns.
