Caterpillars, Moths & Butterflies

I’ve been seeing lots of caterpillars recently. Mummy and I have been looking in our book of British Insects to identify what they are.

This black and yellow stripey caterpillar is one we found a few weeks ago, it’s a cinnabar moth and at the weekend we saw lots of cinnabar moths:

Daddy spotted these black caterpillars on a stinging nettle in our local park, we believe they will grow into Peacock Butterflies:

Whilst we were out on bikes on the busy Millenium Coastal Path we spotted this big hairy caterpillar crossing the pathway. I picked it up and moved it to the side to prevent it from being trodden on, we’re not sure what type of caterpillar it was. Later on the same day we saw another brown caterpillar in danger at the playground, so we moved that one to safety too. We’re not sure what type this was either but it could be a Large Yellow Underwing.
