During our visit to Fairbourne & Barmouth we saw lots of very big jellyfish. We think they are Barrel Jellyfish, we counted 16 swimming under the railway bridge that connects Barmouth with Fairbourne.
Barrel Jellyfish are the largest jellyfish that we get in the UK and they can grow as big as a dustbin lid.
I learnt about these earlier in the year when we saw them before. I already knew:
- the collective noun for jellyfish is a bloom of jellyfish
- the top part is called the bell or hood
- the long dangle legs are called tentacles, the same as an octopus
- jellyfish do not have a brain or a heart.

We also saw lots of people catching crabs and I got a close look at them whilst they were swimming around in a bucket of water.

I also made friends with a girl who was a bit older than me whilst we were playing in the sea. She had goggles and could dive under the waves, she showed me lots of very small crabs that hid in their shells when they were picked up, but as soon as she put them down they reappeared and quickly swam away or buried themselves into the sand.
