We spent the day in London.

Things learnt/visited:

  • Big Ben is a bell, we heard it chime.
  • Downing Street is where the Prime Minister lives. The Prime Minister is very important and is in charge of running the country.
  • We saw pelicans, ring neck parakeets, Egyptian Geese, swans, greylag geese and herons in St James Park.
  • We watched a moorhen building its nest.
  • We saw Buckingham Palace which is where the King lives.
  • We went on the underground, I learnt how to understand the tube map.
  • We walked over lots of bridges that crossed the River Thames.
  • We saw and talked about Tower Bridge and how it can open up to let tall ship’s through.
  • We discussed how cities are often built on a river because before cars were invented, goods arrived by boat.
  • We went inside The Tate and saw lots of odd art and sculptures.
  • We saw numerous red double decker buses and black cabs.
  • We saw traditional red phone boxes, in the old days people didn’t have mobile phones and needed to carry a 10p coin to make a phone call.
  • We saw people protesting the war in the Middle East in Trafalgar Square.
  • We had dinner by The Monument and discussed the Great Fire of London.
  • We saw St Paul’s Cathedral.
