My grandad dad Popsie, took me across to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth on the Gosport Ferry. Then we went up the Spinnaker Tower in a really fast lift.
Learning opportunities / discussions about:
- different types of vessels (a vessel is something that goes on water)
- naval ships / aircraft carriers
- historic ships like HMS Victory
- ferries, small ones like the Gosport Ferry we went on today, larger ones like the IOW car ferry and really big ones like the Brittany Cross Channel ferries
- luxury yachts
- sailing boats
- the army and navy in general
- we watched the hovercraft zoom across from Ryde. Last year my grandad took me on the hovercraft so it was fun to watch it from above.
- solar panels and their uses
- we watched some trains come and go
- I walked, well danced, across the glass floor
- Facts about the Spinnaker Tower:
- the high speed lift rises 100 meters in 28 seconds
- it was built in 2005, that means it is 20 years old this year
- in high winds, the Tower can flex up approximately 150mm
- there are 120 windows in the tower.
